A Fundraiser for Solar Power In a Small Guatemala Community and more...

Hello!

Happy holiday weekend and kind of a summer wrap up, back to school, maybe a back to a routine weekend...whatever it is for you, I hope you enjoy it!

This week, I wanted to tell you about a fundraiser I'm participating in. I'm attending a retreat in San Marcos, Guatemala at the end of October and in partnership with the retreat host, One World Cacao, I am helping raise funds for a local solar power project.

What a great way to vacation, right? Enjoy a beautiful destination and get to help hands-on with getting power to families. Can you imagine how different your home would be without electricity??

This service will provide indigenous families in San Marcos La Laguna with Solar electricity. Families that will most benefit from this project have been selected, meaning those without any electricity.

Familia Utz Corazon has already successfully installed the first solar unit!

The family of 6, living in a 2 room block house, told us that for 3 years they have lived without electricity. Every night they allow one candle to be lit costing them around 80 cents, this being a luxury.

Now this family will have light in both rooms and also in their outdoor kitchen/bathroom. In addition, they were pleasantly surprised to find that included in the kit is a radio and cables to charge a cell phone. This brought a large smile in particular to the younger daughter.

Contributions will allow solar installations to continue for families in need.

It only costs $120 per household to install one of these solar units. Seriously, so inexpensive for US standards, but not for folks in Guatemala. Any donation amount is welcome, no matter how big or small...every little bit makes a big difference!

Here is the link to my website store where you can donate. I will make one final contribution to the project upon wrapping up the fundraiser.

If you would rather make a cash or check donation or through Venmo, please reach out and we can arrange that as well.

Thank you to all those that support this local program

in San Marcos La Laguna!

(P.S. - there will be no issue of The Journey this week...see you next week.)
